Up and Coming: Young StarCraft 2 player takes the National Schools Championship

Edwin “Drager” Wliiams, representing Veneration E-Sports has won the National School Championships on 2 August.

The 16-year-old has established himself as one of the countries top StarCraft 2 contenders and continues to rake in the victories. Having been the youngest player in the StarCraft 2 tournament held earlier this year at The Campus, Williams qualified as a Wild card winner. The event was hosted by Megarom and Internet Solutions and seen as the biggest tournament of its kind where local pro gamer Robert “PandaTank” Botha and Romania’s Silviu “NightEnD” Lazar competed in a showmatch.

In the National Schools Championships hosted by the MSSA and sponsored by MWEB Williams faced off against Tye “TYELANDER” Walker, who was the only other competitor in this online Championship. Williams won all of his matches and as a result earned Gauteng Schools Colours.

From me and the admin team we're extremely satisfied with his win and excited at the same time, such a young player showing a lot of potential and we'll support him everywhere he goes. :)” said Alex van der Merwe, one of the owners of Veneration E-Sports.

Williams is a Master League StarCraft 2 player, earning his wins as a Protoss player. He is currently at the top of his group in the Do Gaming StarCraft 2 League First Division, with only one of seven matches lost. Williams intends to progress even further.

“My plans right now is to make it to the premier division in the DGL, I will also be competing at the DGC this year.” He said.

As such a young player, Williams shows great potential to take his StarCraft 2 career further than just local leagues. With two years of StarCraft under his belt, and countless wins, we will be keeping our eyes on Williams and his future achievements.
