From this August developers will be able to self-publish their Xbox Live
Arcade titles on the Xbox 360 without going through a third-party publisher.
According to an update in a newsletter from The Pinball Arcade
developer, FarSight Studios the change in policy will allow developers to
bypass using a publisher. This just after the change in policy announced for
the Xbox One.
"Microsoft has just announced that indie developers (like FarSight) can now self-publish on Xbox Live Arcade instead of being required to find publishers for their games," the newsletter reads. "This means we can bring The Pinball Arcade back to the 360 ourselves, and also opens the door to an Xbox One version of The Pinball Arcade in the future!" it reads.
Even though FarSight might
have revealed this information ahead of time, Microsoft has said that they’ll
only reveal more information at Gamescom running in the same month the policy
is said to become active, August.
Polygon
has confirmed with FarSight tat the details in their newsletter are accurate, but
a Microsoft spokesman said in a statement that Microsoft hasn’t announced any
changes.
"We have not announced any changes to our publishing policy for Xbox 360. We look forward to sharing more about self-publishing on Xbox One at Gamescom."
